Filippo Juvarra's Drawings - The coat of arms of Leo X by Donato Bramante in the Cancelleria Palace

The Cancelleria Palace is a masterpiece of Early Renaissance Architecture. It was mainly built at the expense of Cardinal Riario, Sixtus IV's nephew, but it was completed in 1515 by Donato Bramante who put in the center of the fašade the coat of arms of Pope Leo X. This coat of arms is now lost, but was in place at the beginning of the XVIIIth century as the plate of the building (below) shows. Note: the four coats of arms one can see today at the corners of the building are a recent addition.
You can see Palazzo della Cancelleria in Giuseppe Vasi's etching and as it is today. The background of this page shows a detail of Palazzo della Cancelleria. Filippo Juvarra worked as a scene designer in the theatre, which once was inside Palazzo della Cancelleria (Teatro Ottoboni).
